Sports Premium

The National Sports Premium funding was introduced during the academic year 2013/2014 following the huge success of the London 2012 Olympic games. It is designed to make additional and sustainable improvements to the quality of Physical Activity and sporting opportunities each school provides their pupils.

At Orrell Lamberhead Green we have decided to spend a large percentage of the money employing a full-time Physical Education & Sport specialist. This has provided outstanding P.E. delivery to all phases of the school; further enhanced our extra-curriculum provision; provided staff with excellent CPD opportunities and contributed to all pupils’ health and well-being. We have also focused on developing the profile of School Sport through increased inter-school and intra-school competition accessible to all children in both Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2.

The Sports Premium has also allowed us to achieve the School Games Silver Award Mark for the 2017/18 Academic year. This award is a Government led award scheme launched in 2012, facilitated by the Youth Sport Trust to reward schools for their commitment to the development of competition across their school and into the community, and we are delighted to have been recognised for our success.

Please see our Sport Premium Impact Statement which gives you an overview of how our sports funding has been spent and the impact from this. Also attached is our current and previous Action Plans containing a breakdown of our spending for the academic years, more in depth information on the impact it will have on improving the sports provision and latest relevant Swimming data for our current Y6 pupils

Physical Education Curriculum

“A high-quality physical education curriculum inspires all pupils to succeed and excel in competitive sport and other physically-demanding activities. It should provide opportunities for pupils to become physically confident in a way which supports their health and fitness. Opportunities to compete in sport and other activities build character and help to embed values such as fairness and respect.” DFE New National Curriculum for Physical Education

At Orrell Lamberhead Green Academy, Physical Education (PE) is a highly valued area of the curriculum. We understand that, through PE, our children are able to benefit physically, mentally and emotionally, fostering positive attitudes and laying the foundations for a healthy lifestyle. We aim to ensure that all children develop competence to succeed in a broad range of physical activities, are physically active for sustained periods of time, engage in competitive sports and activities and lead healthy, active lives.

All pupils participate in games, outdoor and adventurous activities, gymnastics, dance, and athletics, using indoor and outdoor environments where appropriate. Wherever possible specialist coaches are employed to enable the children to receive expert tuition in a wide range of sporting activities. We offer a broad range of after school sports clubs and children have numerous opportunities to participate in competitive sport in the local area. Furthermore, Key Stage 2 children attend swimming lessons and are also offered opportunities to attend residential outdoor and adventurous courses.

We encourage pupils to compare their performances with previous ones and demonstrate improvement to achieve their personal best. Pupils are taught to observe the conventions of fair play, honest competition and good sporting behaviour as individual participants, team members and spectators. PE is assessed within in a range of sports across each year group to ensure that children are able to reach their full potential.
