RSE POLICY

At Orrell Lamberhead Green Academy we aim for our children to develop the knowledge, skills and attributes they need to manage their lives, now and in the future.  School will aim to provide RSE sessions which will give children and young people essential skills for building positive, enjoyable, respectful and non-exploitative relationships and staying safe both on and offline.  By tailoring our curriculum to the needs of the children we teach, we aim to support all children to achieve their academic potential and equip them with the necessary skills to overcome potential   barriers, maintain positive mental attitudes which in turn will lead them to fulfil their potential in the wider world.  Our aim is for the children we teach to become ambitious, lifelong learners leading them to experience a happy, safe and fulfilled life.

RSE Programmes of Study

Relationship Education is compulsory in all primary schools from September 2020.  The Department for Education statutory guidance states that from September 2020, all primary schools must deliver relationships and health education whereby parents cannot withdraw their child.

The Department for Education continues to recommend that all primary schools should have a sex education programme tailored to the age and maturity of the pupils.  Relationships and Sex Education (RSE) is a planned programme of learning where the children acquire the knowledge and understanding they need to have healthy relationships and stay safe.

In order to provide all pupils with a broad and balanced curriculum that aims to assist all pupils to prepare for adult life, Orrell Lamberhead Green Academy will implement a programme of study that is built upon the context and needs of the school community.   It will therefore be bespoke to the needs of the children and this will be reviewed and amended to meet the changing circumstances and challenges children face.
