Physical Education (PE) Curriculum Intent
The intent of Orrell Lamberhead Green Primary’s Physical Education curriculum is to ensure that all children can achieve the aims of the national curriculum through a broad, balanced and progressive curriculum. We strive to provide opportunities for all children to become physically confident in a way that supports their health, fitness and wellbeing. We also provide opportunities for all the children to participate in sporting events in order to build character and help to embed our school values. Through Physical Education, we aim to develop the children’s knowledge, skills and understanding so that they can perform with increasing confidence and competence in a range of physical activities. We aim to improve health and well-being, promote active participation for life and for each child to fulfil their potential. Ensuring children’s experiences of Physical Education are positive and motivating is essential so that children’s attitudes towards a healthy lifestyle are firmly embedded and a platform is created to live healthy active lifestyles when they leave our school.
Support:
We recognise the importance of Physical Education within the curriculum and what it can offer our children. The PE curriculum that we have designed at school, provides all children with support through excellent resources and activities to ensure all children can experience success without it being dependant on their ability.
Inspire:
We want to inspire all of our children to succeed and excel in competitive sport and provide them with opportunities that will inspire them to be physically literate. We believe this promotion will create new interests within children and will help them to identify new talents, they may not have previously known existed within themselves. Within the PE curriculum, we have identified a broad range of experiences that will enthuse your child, these experiences include competitions, after school clubs, residentials and many more.
Prepare:
During your child’s journey here at Orrell Lamberhead Green, we begin by developing fundamental movement skills, so that children become increasingly competent and confident and are able to access a broad range of opportunities to extend their agility, balance and coordination, individually and with others. We then build upon this by continuing to apply and develop a broader range of skills, learning how to use them in different ways and to link them to make actions and sequences of movement. This will then prepare the children with solid foundations so that they can succeed in their physical educational journey.
