PSHE and RSE Curriculum Intent

Our PSHE curriculum is built to support, inspire and prepare our children to be their BEST.  Our curriculum has been deliberately planned to enable children to develop the knowledge, skills and attributes they need to manage their lives, now and in the future.

Support: We recognise the importance of PSHE within the curriculum.  During your child’s journey here at Orrell Lamberhead Green, we quickly identify each child’s starting points in Communication and Language (C&L) and Personal, Social and Emotional Development (PSED) and this enables our team to provide the appropriate support in order to develop every child’s ability to interact effectively and develop positive attitudes of themselves and others. By tailoring our curriculum to the needs of the children we teach, we aim to support all children to achieve their academic potential and equip them with the necessary skills to overcome potential barriers, maintain positive mental attitudes which in turn will lead them to fulfil their potential both academically and socially in the wider world.  Our aim is for the children we teach to become ambitious, lifelong learners leading them to experience a happy, safe and fulfilled life.

Inspire: We want all our children to be ambitious for their future; to have experiences which open up new ideas and a passion to pursue a future path which will bring them happiness and fulfilment in life.  Our children are encouraged to develop a sense of self-worth by playing a positive role in contributing to school life and the wider community.  We provide our children with the opportunity to learn about rights and responsibilities and appreciate what it means to be part of a diverse society.

Prepare: Our children gain from a careful and deliberately planned curriculum which is personalised to their locality.  We aim to prepare children to be global citizens now and in their future roles within a worldwide community. We provide a PSHE curriculum that incorporates the understanding and requirements of RSE which enables pupils to explore the complexity of the relationships they will have now and throughout their lives.  Children are equipped with the vocabulary and knowledge to keep themselves safe and to understand and develop healthy relationships both now and in the future.
