Reading

At Orrell Lamberhead Green we aim for our children to have a life-long appreciation of reading. We want to foster a love of reading that stimulates the imagination. By exposing children to rich vocabulary through a broad range of high-quality, ability-appropriate texts we promote book talk. We want our children to be enthused by books that are fiction, non-fiction, and poetry, so therefore we ensure the availability of a wide range of subject-specific books that further skills and knowledge. We aim to provide questions that stimulate discussion, independent ideas/ thoughts/ enquiry that enhance understanding and comprehension of what they are reading. As a school we prioritise early reading as we know the importance of this skill supports future success. We also value the importance of spoken language and how this underpins the development of reading and writing.  Through well-resourced teacher books and class libraries, children will be exposed year-on-year to a wide range of fiction, non-fiction and poetry books that are progressive.  This includes books identified across all subject areas. We believe reading should be enjoyable; inspire creativity and generate curiosity. We want to prepare our children to become fluent, confident readers who are passionate about reading.
